IRS Extends Due Date for Forms 1095-B and 1095-C

On October 4th, 2018, we posted a blog containing information about the IRS’ updated Forms 1094 and 1095.  The IRS has now extended the deadline for furnishing Forms 1095-B and 1095-C to individuals; the extension runs to March 4th, 2019.  This extends the previous deadline of January 31, 2019 by nine weeks. The IRS requires insurers, self-insuring employers and certain other providers who provide minimum essential coverage, (as well as applicable large employers) to file these information-reporting forms annually.  Form 1095-B addresses Health Coverage information and Form 1095-C addresses Employer-Provided Health Insurance Office and Coverage information. Both forms are furnished not only to the IRS but also to the individual.  If you are required to file these forms, the IRS advises to file as soon as possible, as filing after the deadline may trigger penalties.
